Terms of Entry

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

1. All entries must be made online using our online entry system on our website www.laganfestival. org.

2. Only performers whose names appear on the online entry form shall be permitted to compete. In the case of duologue performers both names should be included on the entry form.

3. The closing date for speech, drama and art entries for the 2025 festival is 11th January 2025. The closing date for music entries is 2nd February 2025. All music entries should be sent to the music administrator. All details regarding the payment of entry fees can be found on the online entry system.

4. Within the Speech and Drama section performers are not permitted to select as ‘own choice’ any test pieces set in the syllabus. Performers are required to give a copy of ‘own choice’ pieces to the Adjudicator.

5. In the event of a very large entry into a class the committee reserve the right to divide the entries into separate classes. The order in which performers will be heard will be decided by ballot.

6. Where there is only one performer in a class, first place will only be awarded if the performer reaches the required standard. Similarly, first and second place may not be awarded in a class of two and so on.

7. Each item of artwork submitted shall only be returned to the performer on receipt of a stamped addressed envelope.

8. All artwork will be displayed publicly throughout the duration of the festival.

9. The Adjudicators decision shall be final.

10. Any performer who breaches these conditions shall be disqualified.

11. Any complaints must be sent to the festival secretary in writing.

12. Trophy winners must sign an agreement to return cups or trophies by a specified date in good and clean condition. Engraving is the responsibility of the winner.

13. This festival is a festival for amateurs. As such no one holding a teachers diploma is eligible for entry in any class nor is anyone who derives their livelihood from the branch of performance in which they would seek to enter the festival.

14. No performer may use any piece for which they have previously been awarded a certificate in any preceding year in any class.

15. No performer may enter two classes at different levels or play the same piece in two different classes.

16. If a performer wishes to perform a piece which is not listed on the printed programme, they may perform, but will not be eligible to compete.


REGULATIONS 
1. COPYRIGHT

The Lagan Festival assumes that if performers use photocopies of verse, prose, dramatic selections or music that they have applied for and received written permission from the publisher.

2. POEMS FOR 2025

All set poems are taken from A FIRST POETRY BOOK published by Macmillan Children’s Books, except for S11 & S12 which are taken from THE WORKS 5, published by Macmillan.

3. TIME LIMITS

In all classes where there is a time limit, it will be strictly adhered to.
